Larry Berger '68

Larry married Barbara right after graduation (she still had a year to go).  They started out in Columbus which was followed by moves to Cleveland, Boston, Washington, DC, and Connecticut. The moves were all job-related.  Barbara retired in 2010 (professor emerita) and Larry retired from Odyssey Reinsurance (SVP) in 2014.  They moved to Charleston, SC to escape the northern winters and love it down there.  Larry & Barbara have three children and six grandchildren.  Their  families are spread out in New York, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta.  They've visited Columbus a few times in the past 50+ years (how has she put up with him that long?).  Ohio State sure has changed. 

I’m Mike Brady and I’m Roger Obenauf’s little brother Alpha Lambda initiated 1976.  I’m open to helping out where and when I can.  Keep me in the loop and I’ll see what I can do.   

Enrolling in Ohio State in the Fall of 1975, Paul was assigned to his last choice of dorms: Lincoln Tower.  Pledging Theta Chi Spring 1976, his new found brothers aided in his dorm escape moving him into the Alpha Lambda house Fall of 1976.  He resided there until graduating early in December 1978 with a BS in Finance. He subsequently attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning his MBA in 1980.  He spent several years bouncing around the Financial Services and Automotive Tool and Equipment industries living in such places as Cincinnati, Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, Charlotte, NC, and Champaign, IL.  In 2000, he reconnected with his θX little sister, Linda Darling living in Lakeland, FL and moved there marrying her the following year. They have one child, Marianne, a freshman at Florida Polytechnic University. Paul and Linda retired in 2022 and are enjoying the Florida sunshine and beaches, traveling and planning what now lies ahead for them as two “empty-nesters”.

The fourth and final Obenauf of his generation to attend OSU and join Theta Chi, Roger Obenauf pledged his first week on campus in 1973. After graduating in ’77, Roger married “little sister” Jane Burkhart the following year and then completed his graduate degree in Health Administration in ’82. Roger and Jane raised two daughters before parting in 2006. Roger married Maureen (Mo) Ryan in 2012 and they both retired in 2016. Roger and Mo moved to Lecanto, Florida fulltime to escape the Ohio winters and to focus on their golf games. Roger still makes it back to Columbus to visit his daughters, two grandchildren and his “northern” Theta Chi brothers.
